1394 TRADE ASSOCIATION PRESS RELEASE1394 Trade Association and HANA to Demonstrate Latest Home Networking Audio/Video Solutions at CEDIA EXPO 2008 Demos in Booth 362 Feature Products Now in the Market from Samsung, Pulse~LINK, Camco, Canopus, UMAN, IntellaSys, IOI Dallas, Sept. 1 , 2008 – The 1394 Trade Association and the High-Definition Audio- Video Network Alliance (HANA) will visit CEDIA EXPO 2008 to demonstrate the latest UWB over coax technology along with a complete audio-video transport system using new, globally available audio and video products. CEDIA EXPO is scheduled for Sept. 4-7 in Denver. The 1394 Trade Association and HANA exhibit will be at booth 362. The HANA demonstration will feature a home networking solution that streams HD content throughout a home scenario using 1394 over a coax cable infrastructure, allowing consumers to securely distribute HD content, using one wire and one remote control. T hree HD content streams will be distributed simultaneously throughout the home over in-home coax cabling and multiple splitters over 1394 via coax bridges linking HD DVRs with multiple HDTVs. The HANA demonstration will use products from member companies including 1394 over coax technology from Samsung and Pulse~LINK, and DVRs from Samsung and IntellaSys. Another CEDIA EXPO demonstration in the 1394 Trade Association booth will transfer high quality real-time video and audio between rooms, using long-haul FireWire over CAT5 cable. All of the products used in the demonstration are commercially available. Audio and video will be distributed over CAT5 cabling using a Universal Media Access Networks (UMAN) enabled router from CAMCO. The UMAN protocol, based on standard FireWire with an embedded IP layer, enables the system to be scaled to a many-to-many distribution matrix for audio, video and TCP/IP. Video from a standard video source will be converted to FireWire using a Thomson Grass Valley professional grade ADC and routed to different zones (rooms) using the Camco router. Audio converted to FireWire using a UMAN audio bridge will be routed directly to a FireWire/UMAN digital amplifier from Behold. TC Applied Technologies played a major organizational role in the demonstration. Key contributors to the 1394 for HD audio and video also include Texas Instruments, Eqcologic, and VividLogic, Inc. The 1394 Trade Association is a worldwide organization dedicated to the advancement of the IEEE 1394 (FireWire) standard. The 1394TA recently celebrated its 13th year of promoting 1394 and its one billionth 1394 port shipped. FireWire is used today in mass-market computer, entertainment, and professional products, and in a wide range of specialty applications such as music, defense, aerospace, industrial, and robotics products.
