1394 Embedded in New Kontron Platform Serving Transportation in Belgium
Embedded computer manufacturer Kontron AG (Eching, Germany) will provide the Walloon transport company in Belgium with a new set of fleet management applications in more than 2,500 buses, running on Kontron platforms, and deploying 1394. Kontron will provide embedded computers based on Intel's Atom low power processor. The devices will be networked wirelessly with a server and be equipped with GPS positioning and GSM mobile communication. Applications will include fleet management, position monitoring and schedule optimization. In addition, the computers support RFID-based cashless ticketing applications. The FireWire interface is in the platform to facilitate data exchange during stays at their home base.
